Medicaid/Planning for Aging

Medicaid/Planning for Aging

Aging brings new decisions—some emotional, others logistical—and Steve Fleischer understands that these choices are often layered with medical, financial, and personal complexities. His approach starts by asking the right questions, but also by listening deeply to each client’s priorities.

Planning for long-term care isn’t simply about Medicaid eligibility. It’s about mapping out a path that honors your independence, prepares for uncertainty, and ensures that care choices align with your values.

Here are the kinds of conversations Steve initiates to help clients navigate aging with clarity and confidence:

  • Long-term care strategy: How will future costs for home health aides, assisted living, or nursing home care be managed—and who will help coordinate those services?
  • Health-related planning: Are there diagnoses like early dementia or Parkinson’s that call for anticipatory legal and financial measures?
  • Insurance readiness: Does the client have long-term care insurance? If not, can coverage still be obtained—and is it the right fit for their goals?
  • Medicaid eligibility planning:
    • For Nursing Home Medicaid, are there asset transfers to consider to begin the five-year lookback period?
    • For Community Medicaid (in-home care), how can assets be adjusted to fit eligibility while ensuring sufficient resources for daily life?
  • Wellness-focused support: Is the client doing what they can to stay strong and safe? Might personal trainers (for balance and grip strength), geriatric care managers, or audiologists play a role in promoting a longer, healthier life?
  • Community engagement: Are there programs—like senior centers, college courses, or online learning—that could enrich the client’s day-to-day experience?
  • Financial management assistance: Could help with bill payment, tax preparation, or general budgeting reduce stress and risk?
  • Professional review: Has a trusted financial advisor recently evaluated whether the client’s investments match their evolving needs and longevity plans?
  • Decision-making delegation: Who is trusted to make medical or financial choices if capacity becomes an issue? Are those individuals legally empowered and emotionally prepared?

Steve doesn’t believe aging is a legal issue—it’s a life chapter that deserves compassion, wisdom, and comprehensive planning. His goal is to help each client make choices that respect their autonomy while surrounding them with the safeguards they may one day need.

Experience and Empathy You Can Trust

Steve believes the process should not only be legally correct—but emotionally supportive. He’s the kind of attorney clients feel comfortable calling with questions, and he ensures that family members are kept informed and reassured throughout. In turn, he values working with Executors who are attentive, responsive, and committed to handling the details.

From start to finish, Steve offers more than representation—he offers resolution. His goal is to bring order to complexity and to help families honor the legacy of their loved one with clarity and respect.
