About Steve Fleischer

Steve brings a unique combination of legal expertise, business acumen, and philanthropic dedication to his practice. With a diverse career spanning litigation, corporate leadership, and elder law, he offers clients comprehensive legal guidance that extends beyond traditional representation.

Early Career & Business Leadership

Raised on Long Island, Steve earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan before graduating with honors from The George Washington University Law School. Upon returning to New York City, he embarked on a legal career that quickly diverged from conventional paths. Beginning in litigation at a general practice firm, he also worked on contracts, trusts, and estates. Recognizing the inefficiencies of litigation for clients, he sought a more strategic approach to problem-solving.

This realization led Steve to a pivotal career shift. An opportunity arose within his family’s business, where he took on the role of General Counsel. In addition to overseeing legal matters, he expanded his expertise by becoming Vice President of Sales and leading research initiatives. Over the course of two decades, he played a critical role in the company’s success, ultimately guiding it through a successful sale. This experience allowed Steve to develop a rare perspective — combining the precision of legal reasoning with the practical understanding of business operations.

Transition to Elder Law & Solo Practice

Following the sale of the family business, Steve returned to private practice with a renewed focus. He sought to expand his skills and tackle a new challenge, leading him to the field of elder law. Recognizing the importance of hands-on experience, he immersed himself in the discipline by volunteering full-time at a legal clinic providing free elder law services in New York City. Over two years, he gained invaluable insights into the complexities of aging-related legal concerns.

Steve soon realized that elder law required more than just a mastery of legal statutes — it demanded an understanding of the broader ecosystem of services essential to aging individuals. With this in mind, he developed a robust network of professionals, including home health care agencies, geriatric care managers, financial advisors, daily money managers, and medical specialists. His approach centers on holistic client care, ensuring that legal solutions are integrated with the support systems his clients need. By fostering strong relationships within this network, he provides guidance that is both legally sound and practically beneficial.

Philanthropy & Charitable Gift Planning

Beyond his legal and business pursuits, Steve is deeply committed to philanthropy. He has actively volunteered with UJA-Federation of New York, serving on its board for two six-year terms while continuing to contribute through various committees. His leadership in charitable initiatives extends to overseeing a family foundation established by his parents. Under his direction, the foundation has refined its priorities, focusing on employment, workforce development, and small business support in the United States. In Israel, the foundation additionally advocates for pluralism and the separation of religion from state.

Steve’s extensive philanthropic involvement provides him with unique insight when advising clients on charitable gift planning. He helps individuals and families structure their contributions to maximize impact while ensuring that their values and goals are reflected in their giving strategies. Whether setting up endowments, facilitating donations, or incorporating charitable planning into estate arrangements, he empowers clients to create meaningful and lasting contributions to the causes they care about.

A Comprehensive Approach to Legal Advocacy

Steve’s career reflects a commitment to evolving with his clients’ needs. His legal expertise, combined with real-world business experience and a deep understanding of aging-related services, allows him to provide well-rounded, insightful counsel. Whether guiding families through estate planning, advising aging individuals on care options, or helping clients structure philanthropic initiatives, he approaches each matter with precision, compassion, and strategic foresight.

At the core of his practice is the belief that legal guidance should extend beyond paperwork — it should offer solutions that improve lives. Steve strives to ensure that his clients receive not only sound legal advice but also the resources and support necessary to navigate complex challenges with confidence.
